Christianity is a monotheistic faith built around the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, whom adherents regard as the incarnate Son of God and the promised Messiah. It emerged in the 1st-century Roman province of Judea from a Jewish milieu and spread rapidly across the Mediterranean through the missionary work of the apostles.
