About This Flag
The flag of Oman features three horizontal bands of white on top, red in the center, and green on the bottom, with a broader vertical red band on the hoist side bearing the national emblem in white at its top. The emblem consists of two crossed swords overlaid with a khanjar (curved dagger) in its sheath, a traditional symbol of Omani heritage.
White represents peace and the Imam (the religious leader), green symbolizes fertility and the Green Mountains (Jebel Akhdar), and red is the traditional color of the Omani people. The current design was adopted on April 25, 1995, with minor modifications to the proportions, though the basic design dates to 1970.
