About This Flag
A diagonal band running from the lower hoist corner to the upper fly corner divides the flag into two triangles: the upper triangle is blue with a gold twelve-rayed sun, and the lower triangle is green. The diagonal band is red bordered by narrow white stripes.
The flag was adopted on March 21, 1990, when Namibia gained independence from South African administration. It was chosen through a national design competition.
Blue represents the sky and the Atlantic Ocean, red symbolizes the people and their heroism, green stands for vegetation and agriculture, and the golden sun represents life and energy.
