About This Flag
The flag of Kazakhstan features a sky-blue field with a golden sun bearing 32 rays at its center, below which sits a soaring golden steppe eagle. Along the hoist side runs a vertical band of golden national ornamental pattern called koshkar-muiz (ram's horns).
The sky blue represents the vast Kazakh skies and the Turkic peoples who have historically associated blue with their identity. The sun and its 32 rays symbolize life, energy, and abundance, while the steppe eagle represents freedom, power, and the aspirations of the state.
Designed by Shaken Niyazbekov, the flag was adopted on June 4, 1992, replacing the Soviet-era Kazakh SSR flag.
