About This Flag
The flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis features a green triangle at the upper-hoist corner and a red triangle at the lower-fly corner, separated by a broad black diagonal band edged in yellow running from the lower-hoist to the upper-fly, bearing two white five-pointed stars on the black stripe. The green represents the fertile land, the red symbolizes the struggle against colonialism, the yellow stands for the sunshine, and the black represents the African heritage of the majority of the population.
The two white stars represent the two islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis and also symbolize hope and liberty. The flag was adopted on September 19, 1983, upon independence from Britain.
