About This Flag
The flag of the Solomon Islands features a thin yellow diagonal stripe running from the lower hoist-side corner to the upper fly-side corner, dividing the flag into two triangles — blue on the upper triangle and green on the lower. In the blue triangle near the hoist are five white five-pointed stars arranged in a pattern.
The blue represents the ocean that surrounds and connects the islands. The green symbolizes the rich vegetation and land of the islands.
The yellow stripe represents sunshine. The five stars originally represented the five main island groups of the Solomon Islands (Western, Choiseul, New Georgia, Santa Isabel, and Malaita-plus-outliers).
The flag was adopted on November 18, 1977, about eight months before independence from Britain on July 7, 1978.
What the colors & design mean
