About This Flag
The flag of Venezuela consists of three equal horizontal bands of yellow on top, blue in the middle, and red on the bottom, with an arc of eight white five-pointed stars centered on the blue stripe. The yellow represents the wealth of the nation and the golden fields, the blue symbolizes the sea separating Venezuela from Spain, and the red represents the blood shed for independence.
The eight stars represent the eight provinces that supported the 1811 Venezuelan declaration of independence. The tricolor was originally designed by Francisco de Miranda and is shared (in modified forms) by Colombia and Ecuador.
The eighth star was added by President Hugo Chavez in 2006; the previous version had seven stars.
What the colors & design mean
