About This Flag
The flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines consists of three vertical bands — blue on the hoist side, a wider yellow (gold) band in the center, and green on the fly side — with three green diamonds arranged in a V pattern on the yellow band. The blue represents the sky and the surrounding sea, the yellow stands for the golden sands, sunshine, and the warmth of the people, and the green represents the lush vegetation of the islands.
The three diamonds form the letter V for 'Vincent' and are also said to represent the country as the 'gems of the Antilles.' The flag was adopted on October 21, 1985, replacing an earlier design that featured a breadfruit leaf in the coat of arms.

- The previous flag (1979-1985) featured a complex coat of arms with a breadfruit leaf — the breadfruit was brought to the Caribbean by Captain Bligh of Mutiny on the Bounty fame, who stopped in St. Vincent.
- The Grenadines are a chain of about 600 islands and cays, most of which are uninhabited, stretching between Saint Vincent and Grenada.
- La Soufriere volcano on Saint Vincent is one of the most active volcanoes in the Caribbean and erupted most recently in April 2021, displacing thousands of residents.
