Cayman Islands is a dependent territory of United Kingdom.
About This Flag
The flag of the Cayman Islands is a British Blue Ensign โ a blue field with the Union Jack in the upper-hoist canton โ defaced with the Cayman Islands coat of arms on the fly. The arms show a shield divided by wavy lines representing the sea, bearing three green five-pointed stars (one for each of the three islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman).
Above the shield sits a gold English lion; below, on a scroll, the motto "He hath founded it upon the seas" (Psalm 24:2). The flag was first adopted on May 14, 1958.
What the colors & design mean
The Union Jack reflects the territory's status as a British Overseas Territory. The three green stars represent the three main Cayman Islands. The wavy blue-and-white bars symbolize the Caribbean Sea. The lion above the shield is a traditional symbol of England. The motto references the islands' maritime heritage.
