About This Flag
The flag of Saint Lucia features a cerulean (light) blue field with a large triangle design in the center — a yellow (gold) isosceles triangle in front of a black arrowhead shape, both outlined in white. The blue represents the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean surrounding the island.
The gold triangle symbolizes the sunshine and prosperity, the black triangle represents the island's volcanic origins and the influence of the Black/African population, and the white border signifies the harmony between races. The two triangles also evoke the twin peaks of the Pitons, Saint Lucia's famous volcanic spires and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Designed by Dunstan St. Omer, the flag was adopted on March 1, 1967, and slightly modified in 2002.
What the colors & design mean

- Saint Lucia changed hands between France and Britain 14 times, more than any other Caribbean island, earning it the nickname 'The Helen of the West Indies.'
- The flag was designed by Dunstan St. Omer, one of Saint Lucia's most celebrated artists, who was also known for his vibrant church murals across the island.
- Saint Lucia has produced two Nobel laureates — economist Sir Arthur Lewis and poet Derek Walcott — the most per capita of any sovereign nation.
