About This Flag
A red field with a green pentacle, a five-pointed linear star known as the Seal of Solomon, centered on the flag. The red background has been associated with the Alaouite dynasty, the ruling family of Morocco since the 17th century.
The green pentacle was added by Sultan Yusef in 1915 during the French protectorate period to distinguish it from other plain red flags used in the region. Red symbolizes hardiness, bravery, and the royal lineage, while the green star represents Islam, which is the state religion, and serves as the seal of Solomon.
What the colors & design mean
The red field represents hardiness, bravery, strength, and the Alaouite royal dynasty that has ruled Morocco since 1631. The green five-pointed star, or pentacle, is a symbol of Islam and the Seal of Solomon, representing the connection between God and the nation.
